If you're interested in "basic pieces," may I suggest that we all should probably have:
1. simple pearls
2. some kind of gold (yellow or white) chain from which to hang something
3. diamond stud earrings (any size works)
4. a good watch
and
5. whatever jewelry accompanied your betrothal if you are engaged or married
The rest is all fancy, it's fun, it's gravy. It's collecting and indulging and loads of fun.
Also it's nice to get something that just makes you FEEL GOOD when you wear it. Maybe something in your favorite color? Some people love silver Western stuff and turquoise. Some like sapphires. Costume jewelry. Cubic zirconium! Viva Diamonique! Whatever, we're all individuals. I love green; it's my thing. Green... and red comes a close second place.
I have a green tourmaline that makes me smile just thinking about it. Wearing it is even better!
Get thee to the shops!
I have all of those! Except the studs. They might have to wait until the kid is out of school, though. I got the Tod's bag and I love it!
Congrats on the Bling! I will add you to the list.

Congrats on the Tod's bag. That was the right choice!

I love your breakdown of the very basics of a solid jewelry wardrobe! I do have all those & wear them to death. Beyond those I test-drive all the pieces I make as well - they count for my "fun" pieces.

Ladies, also do not forget the basic rules of combining jewelry! Could we wear silver and gold together?

I completely agree with you. I have all type of jewelry mentioned by you except watch. I am searching for some good watch from long time but didn't get good one. Can you help me for the same? I will really thankful to you.
